In his early youth G loved Thomas and Thomas-related toys alone. Around his fourth birthday the love began transferring to Spider-Man. And now, while he still loves model trains and “taking the train way” (i.e. taking the long route home from the grocery store so that we can pass over the train tracks), his purchases revolve around Spider-Man; his Netflix watching revolves around Spider-Man cartoons; his play revolves around Spider-Man.
We love us some Spider-Man in this house.
When G found out they were making a new Spider-Man movie he was very disappointed. He’d watched all three with Tobey Maguire as the lead (yes, my child has watched those PG-13 movies. we are good Americans and feel like the cartoon-ish violence is not too upsetting; there’s very little bad language and only two kissing scenes in the first two movies [we've since revoked the pass for him to watch the third Spider-Man as it is a little darker]; making them the most-watched movies in this household) and he knew in his belly that he’d make the fourth Spider-Man someday. But when Hubby explained this version is a reboot and he has the chance to make the fourth installment in this new series he was okay with a new one. Excited even.
We’ve watched the above trailer a few times.
Here are my thoughts on this new movie:
- I love Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. Emma Stone is adorable.
- I like Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.
- Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben? Sally Fields as Aunt Mae? Noooo. NOOOOOOOOOOO! Sally Fields is too irritating for such an important role.
- I hope The Amazing Spider-Man is not as dark as it appears in the trailer. I won’t let G watch a movie that is too heavy and sad. Let’s keep Peter Parker quippy and light-hearted.
Are there any other wives-of-nerds and mothers-of-nerds who are excited about this movie with me?
