you might call it gaudy

in just me

A few weeks ago I bought a chandelier to hang in our kitchen.  Nothing was wrong with the previous light fixture; it’s modern and simple, but it just sat there, nearly flush against the ceiling.  Boring.  We like our light fixtures to jump down and say “Hoorah!”

For a while I’ve been looking on craigslist for a chandelier that was not silly expensive.  Sometimes people want too much for their trash.  Finally I found this one:

Oh yeah.

Hubby’s reservations were that it might not be bright enough and that it is brass.  Oh how my husband hates brass.  One time I took a Sunday afternoon nap and woke to my brass-rimmed mirror spray-painted bronze.  The rash actions of a man driven crazy by brass.  It looked fine to me–lucky for him–and it now hangs next to our front door so most of you have seen it.  Next time you’re over why don’t you tell him he did a nice job?

I promised to check the chandelier’s brightness if I got to see it.  And Krylon spray paint is fine for light fixtures.  They said so on their commercials and I believe them.  Mostly.  Anything to get rid of the brass, because who knows what might happen to this adorable chandelier if I leave the house for a day.

The seller and I arranged a time to meet and I bought it.  A week later, some primer and spray paint, and voila.

This light makes me happy.
