Seriously.
I am asking because I want to know what you moms out there are wearing this summer. As a mom who was post-partum last summer and wore maternity clothes all season I have very few warm-weather clothes that have lasted since my need for them two years ago. My skirts are okay but I have less than five shirts that aren’t nastily stretched out or stained. It is those five shirts I’m hoping to fit into after a steady schedule of workouts at the gym.
So, what are your suggestions?
Here are the problems as I see them:
- Jeans are not much of an option and shorts are of the devil. They ride up in between my legs and are all sorts of uncomfortable. Bermuda shorts may help with the riding-up problem but my husband hates them. He’ll even grimace when he sees another woman wearing them in public. Although now with the plethora of bermuda shorts about us he might not notice them on other women, so you can feel free to wear them in front of us without him laughing at you. At least he won’t laugh out loud.
- Dresses are short. Why are the current hemlines so stinking high? I have a dress from Forever21–the youngin’s store–that I bought when G was a baby and it reaches my knee. The hemlines nowadays are for short ladies and I am not one of those. The answer to short dresses and skirts in the winter is leggings, and those blessed leggings will work for a little while longer. But in the heat of summer? At the kids’ t-ball games? Yuck. I don’t need an extra layer to encourage my sweat glands. My sweat glands work just fine on their own. Now, I did buy a pair of teeny-tiny shorts to wear underneath dresses and I tried this out a few weeks ago. I’m very glad I had the coverage when my dress blew up as I stood in a parking lot on Andover Road. The passers-by got a great view of my white thighs and gray shorts that are barely bigger than underwear. Not my happiest moment. But at least those drivers didn’t see my undies.
- The answer to mini-skirts might be maxi dresses. I’m not sure if I can pull one off without looking pregnant. I’ll try one on and let you know how it goes. But even if a maxi dress does work I can’t wear one every day of the summer. Not cost effective and very boring.
So, what are you guys wearing this summer? Discuss.

*whine* for real. What will I wear. blerg. I got out all my summer clothes……dumped them promptly into the garage sale pile…and flounced onto my coach announcing to my husband I was gonna have to shop (which I hate doing) and he looked at me and said, “ok.” But I don’t even know what to buy.

I am with you. I like dresses but they are too short! I can’t wear maxi dresses without looking like I’m trying to clean the floor. Plus they are sort of resort-y yeah? I like shorts in the summer, though. Not bermudas. Old Navy makes a good mid-level short, I forget the length in inches. I have a roll up leg pair and a pair from their “perfect khaki” line. I also made a pair of denim cutoffs that I’m surprisingly into. You can customize the length, even. Jeans without the stretch make better fringe but it doesn’t really matter. Put a blousy top or a basic tee and you’re good to go. I’ve been seeing a lot of filmy button down shirts that are also cute. Flat leather sandals or some hot wedges would round it out!
I am a big proponent of maxi dresses- super comfy, no exposure and if it fits you right, you should not look preggo- good luck!
I’m wearing bermuda shorts. Often. Especially around Shannon.
I have decided that I can’t buy anything unless it is a complete outfit because I have WAY too many things that I bought thinking I would find something to go with it, but never did and now I never wear them. I love Old Navy’s website because you can shop by outfit. On another note, after thinking they look ridiculous for a few seasons I have now decided that the “boyfriend” crop pants are cute. I bought one at Target and another at TJ Max the other day. I will also be wearing bermuda shorts in front of Shannon this summer. I might even do it on purpose just to see you guys smile
I also went scarf crazy recently. I love that they add color because I am usually terrified of color and they cover up my huge knockers I have from nursing(although I do enjoy them since I don’t usually have that problem
.
I love this conversation! That is all. I have no fashion advice.
If it makes you feel any better, I don’t even know what a maxi dress is. I don’t think I could wear one though, because it makes me think of pads.
