On Monday I bought a dress from Old Navy. For full price. You should never buy anything from the Gap or Old Navy for full price because they always go on sale within a week. But I was there and had a gift card and the dress is so pretty.
I assessed my closet last week and realized most of my clothes cost less than $10. My favorite cardigan from Forever21: $9. My second-favorite cardigan from the girls’ section at Target: under $5. T-shirts and turtlenecks from Old Navy and Target: $9 or less. But I tend to spend more on dresses because they are oh-so-cute and I wear the poop out of them.
So that is why I was okay with spending full price on that dress on Monday. I plan to wear it to death.
And an update on this post. The system is working very well. With a gift card I received for my birthday I bought five things online. I received them, tried every one on, returned three of them and bought one more item for myself (then bought a shirt each for G and Little Missy. with my birthday present. Hubby did the same thing with his Barnes & Noble gift card. we’re weak). For each item of clothing I bought I donated one to Goodwill. It was difficult with one dress that I kept thinking I would love but haven’t worn in years, but with one dress I was glad to have an excuse to get rid of it. So with each item I purchase it’s not Oh, this is only $13 so I’ll buy it and maybe I’ll wear it, it’s more like Yeah, but do I like it enough to give up something? It makes me more intentional about everything I purchase and I feel better about what I’m spending my money (gift cards) on.

Why does it seem like it’s so much more fun to buy things for the kids? Maybe it’s their excited, happy faces when they see what you got them. Who knows, but it sure is fun. Glad you got some stuff for yourself too:)
I need to clean out my closet so bad! I need to donate a bunch of clothes. I’m tired of not being able to shove it all in there!
