turns out i’m right

Remember this column?  Of course you do!  The frustrations I vented that morning are still present.  And most every night my sweet Hubby stands in the kitchen without a smirk on his face as I describe with very big hand motions that YET AGAIN my brain is tired from not being able to focus on a task for more than five minutes without being interrupted by a baby or a four-year-old or a kindergartener or a dog (yes, we have a dog, and I’m almost ready to blog about it).

But you know how when telling a story you sometimes think in your head, “Maybe I’m slightly exaggerating on that point?  Maybe I get 10 minutes of uninterrupted brain flow but it just feels like five minutes?”

So this morning I decided to sit down with the stopwatch on my phone and a piece of paper to log the interruptions.  Now let me tell you first that this is Column Day, the morning that I put them in front of a movie so that I can type on the computer and write a column that at least one thousand people will read the next day (or in this case, in two days, since it’s Thanksgiving tomorrow).  I need to appear more intelligent and less ditzy and I need my brain to concentrate for a little while.

Let me show you the interruption intervals, and let me also tell you these were not from the baby until the very end because she was happily entertained in her exersaucer (thank you, Ang!):

And what is the average of those?  Roughly every four and a half minutes someone was coming in here to ask about an apple or a drink of water or did I eat enough of my apple to get a brownie? or I don’t want to watch that movie!

Turns out, I’m not exaggerating.

As of next week I’m going to be writing two columns a week, but Column Day will only really come on Thursdays because Mondays both of the big kids will be in school and I won’t have to ignore them while I lock myself in front of the computer and write about how thankful I am to have them in my lives.  Because I am.  I love every minute with them, even when I don’t know how to parent them.  Life is too quiet without them.

And why am I writing two columns per week?  Because I asked Kent if I could and he said yes!  I have a lot of words that get stuck in the back of my throat with no one to spill them to and so I am going to subject the good people of Augusta and Andover to more of my stories.

“Ignore them while you write about how much you love them.” HILARIOUS!
