Saturday the five of us went shopping. Hubby, G, and Little Missy all needed winter clothes. Serendipitously, Old Navy had a buy one/get one deal going on. So after G’s soccer game we piled in The Beast and headed to the mall.
Hubby is usually quite the grump when we shop. He will take issue with me saying this and respond that no, he is very nice and watches the kids and smiles at me while I peruse the clothes, but really, he is a grump and he hates shopping. But it turns out that he doesn’t mind it so much when he’s the one getting most of the clothes.
Side tangent (is that redundant?): Hubby is a fun topic of conversation for me and his sister-in-law Ang. She pointed out–and we both became fascinated by the fact–that Hubby is terribly thrifty compared to his brothers. So thrifty, in fact, that it was a badge of honor for him to wear shoes day after day after day to work that were so worn out he could poke a finger through one of the soles. Ang and I once talked about her husband who never minds if she spends money as long as she brings him a treat, whereas Hubby would be annoyed if I bought him something in addition to buying the rest of us stuff. Cuz why spend more money?
Except on Saturday when he was plenty happy to walk around the store and find new shirts for himself.
After Old Navy we ate lunch and then went to the Gap. I have been anxiously awaiting the day I could spend my Groupon and purchase something that I wouldn’t normally spend a bunch of money on. But with that pretty little coupon I could walk out with $50 worth of stuff after spending only $25. I was all in. So I walked ambled around the store, dug through the racks, and found NOTHING. A big, fat, nothing.
Now we all know that I like simple clothes. Grays, browns, blacks–those are the predominant colors in my wardrobe. Combine that with a classic cut and it’s mine! But oh my, those clothes at the Gap are boring for even me. So boring I couldn’t stand to take the time to look at them.
This whole rambling post for me to come to this point: When I was at Wal-Mart I had to talk myself out of buying some things from there. Some CUTE things.
It is a strange day when clothes at Wal-Mart are way cuter than clothes at the Gap.
