[Yes, I'm totally copying the monthly newsletter thing.]

Dear Baby Chickadee,

Yesterday you turned four months old.  You continue to be a tiny, rolly-polly ball of wonderful.  For a long time I didn’t want to talk on here about how good of a baby you are; I didn’t want to talk about your willingness to sleep in your bouncy seat (which you’re doing now as I write this) or your car seat or your crib or my bed or on my chest.  Nor did I want to talk about how you smile right after I wake you from sleep so we can head out the door to take big brother to school.  And I certainly didn’t want to talk about how the only time you cry is when you’re hungry.

What if, by speaking all of it out loud or writing it on this blog, I jinxed it?

But now I realize that I need to revel in this stage of your life.  I should write down every wonderful, adorable thing you do, then throw those scraps of paper on the floor and swim in them like the Uncle from DuckTales swam in his gold coins.  I am going to love every minute of you being easy-peasy like this because one day you won’t love me waking you up early and one day you’ll only want to sleep in your bed.

Your favorite thing to do is watch everyone and everything.  Heaven forbid I hold you close when you are not tired, and Double Heaven Forbid if I hold you close in a new place.  You want to see the world!  Everything is fascinating!  I love watching you watch the world.

You are enamored with G and Little Missy.  You watch them come into the room, you watch them when they play, you smile when they look your way and squeal when they talk to you.  And you are the first person they each want to kiss when they get home from school.  You are a lucky baby to have them as big brother and big sister.

Soon you will talk.  For a long time you cooed as we talked to you but last week it changed to a cooing/blowing bubbles combo.  It is hilarious.  You are very proud of your ability to make bubbles from your spit.

And I love you.  What more can I say?  I love your toothless smile that takes over your face and makes your eyes twinkle.  I love the way your neck smells when I kiss it.  I love the way your tiny hand holds my fingers as I carry you when we walk around the house.  You are such a perfect addition to our already perfect family, sweet Baby Chickadee.

love,

Mommy
