in He is good

My friend Jessi recently read a book by a man recounting his experience adopting two children from an orphanage in Russia.  As he and his wife walked into the orphanage they noticed the silence… the children were so used to not getting their needs met that they no longer cried out for help.

I wonder if we as Christians are so used to not getting our needs met by our Caretaker that we no longer cry out to Him.

We are wrong to do this.

Get on your knees, beat your chest, bow your head at the kitchen counter as you wash dishes, just cry out to Him.  He is there and He will answer you.  In Philippians 4 He tells us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  He did not use that word everything by mistake.  Each of His words are chosen for a specific reason.  So cry out to Him, no matter how small your need.

There is no promise that He will answer us in the way our human hearts desire.  Jesus’ prayer was not answered the way He desired, but three days later He rose victoriously from His tribulations.

But let all who take refuge in You be glad;
let them ever sing for joy.
Spread Your protection over them,
that those who love Your name may rejoice in You.

Psalm 5:11

Oh, Darlin’! Let me tell you, I was hollering out to him, last week with Bub’s hospitalization! I’m convinced now that the God that created the universe knows me and my needs so intimately that it takes my breath away. I think you are right in that we forget that!
