in yummy food

We eat a lot of McDonald’s in this family.  At least we used to.  Sometimes every other week when we were being good, but mostly once a week we ate at the golden arches.  I KNOW McDonald’s food is unhealthy, full of hydrogenated oils and trans fat and loads of preservatives, but sometimes those chicken nuggets and french fries taste soooo good.  And when the kids’ faces light up with new toys it’s a pretty easy way to spend an evening.

A few weeks ago Rockstar posted a link on facebook to this article and we haven’t eaten there since.  Not until Tuesday when we stopped there for a meatless breakfast on our way to Kansas City.  (My kids only ate pancakes, I had an egg and cheese biscuit; hopefully they couldn’t add too much nastiness to any of those.)

Little Missy keeps asking when we can eat there and get a Happy Meal and I put her off by excitedly saying “Let’s look at the calendar when we get home!  And then we can choose a day to go there!  And it will be so fun!”  Thus far my little sweetie hasn’t seen through my shenanigans, and we honestly will make it there for dinner.  Sometime.

While there on Tuesday Hubby pointed out the toys in the Happy Meals.  Super Heroes and Littlest Pet Shop.  DO YOU PEOPLE KNOW HOW PERFECT THOSE TOYS ARE FOR MY KIDS?  G who loves Spiderman and Little Missy who alternates between acting like a puppy and acting like a kitty.  They would squeal with joy if they got one of them.  But why do I have to get some grody food in order to get the toy?  Why can’t I just pay McDonald’s a dollar and get the toy but not the food?

You actually can buy their toys! I just learned this a couple weeks ago… my mom took the kids to Micky D’s… they usually share meals when we go places and my mom couldn’t bear for them to only have one toy…. puh-lease… so she found out you can buy a toy for $1.25. So there ya have it.

Erin & Hayley — I was wondering what all that icky stuff did to you. Was it your beauty, your love for dance, your intellect, your sense of humor, your empathy, your sense of faith, your overall good health? Maybe you can tell I haven’t read the article, but the aforementioned young women had a collection of hundreds(?!) of Happy Meal boxes (they are kind of old now) meaning they must have had the Nuggets that came with them. If I had it to do over, I would definitely cut down on that collection, but maybe not stop it all together.
