Craigslist. This time for cars.
I need a new vehicle. Hubby needs a new vehicle. And now it’s this race to see who can find a new vehicle first, because we have the cash for one vehicle but not for both, at least not until we sell our Dodge. My poor husband has been driving my old Saturn for the past few years, and that thing will not die. But now it needs some help, and we’ve made the decision we don’t really want to help it. We could take it to the shop and they could fix it, but then it would run for another 150,000 miles, and neither of us want to look at that car for that much longer. So instead of fixing up a reliable car we’re going to buy a new-to-us truck. Because sometimes you just gotta have fun with your vehicle.
You all know I’ve been hunting CarMax, but now they send me updates of “We found your new car!” because looking at their site 7 or 8 times a day was not healthy so I saved searches with them. And every time they have Found my new car! it is a mini-van. But I’m still desperately clinging to the tiny hope of owning an SUV.
Last night Hubby came home from work and told me he’d seen an Expedition with a For Sale sign leaving his work. I acted calm, with a casual “Oh really?” and let it go. To which he said “I have the number if you want to call it.” I called, found out it was a ’98 with close to 200,000 miles and they were asking almost $1500 over Kelley Blue Book for a good condition, private party vehicle. It was an easy one to turn down, but for some reason it made me start thinking about Craigslist.
That is where all the cars have gone. People no longer list their cars on Cars.com (infuriating website with a useless search feature) or Autotrader.com (meh search feature). Everyone is listing their cars for free on Craigslist. And because they don’t have a handy-dandy email feature of “We’ve found your new car!” I am looking at that website over and over and over throughout the day. Here it is 1 o’clock and I’ve already looked at the site 4 times today. That’s too much. But what if I find a low-ish mileage old SUV in my price range? That vehicle will be scooped up before I can sneeze. And I really want that PERFECT VEHICLE.
So until Hubby and I are both driving new vehicles Craigslist will be my #1 website every day. And I’m okay with that.

GREAT idea. Craigslist is very addictive…just make sure you don’t go to the puppy pictures in pets.
I love Craigslist. You feel like you are always on the verge of a good deal. It’s like the anticipation of walking up to a garage sale knowing they have just the right stuff for the age of kiddos you have.
I will continue to persuade you over to “the dark side” on the mini-van! Hee Hee!
I think DW and I are going to have a blog debate about the SUV vs Mini-Van. I need to come up with a name for my club since she has MAMV already established.
