Every year I want to do something FUN for New Year’s Eve. And every year Hubby looks at me with a mixture of pity and horror in his eyes and tells me that I’m free to plan something because “it’s a girl’s holiday.” Or an Erin holiday, whichever works. But this was not the year for planning a party. No, we’ve been in a coma around here and I couldn’t get my thoughts together to invite friends over, so we had a nice little evening at home.
I think Hubby may have felt badly for me, knowing I like festivities and we had none planned, so yesterday was full of fun activities as we celebrated the end of 2009 — the four of us ate at IHOP, Hubby took the kids swimming at the Y, I went to TJ Maxx to buy new pillows, then we all went to The Princess and the Frog, and finished with a yummy dinner of hors d’oeuvres from the Dillon’s frozen food section. Last night we sat at our dining room table with a smorgasbord of egg rolls and cheddar poppers and pizza rolls, all things I never buy, but last night was party night and we partied in style. Little Missy, always one to turn up her nose at yummy food, ate oatmeal. The really healthy Kashi oatmeal without any added sugar or anything. When pizza rolls were right in front of her! She’s crazy. But that did leave more food for me.
After our over-processed and minimally not-nutritious-in-the-slightest dinner, Hubby and I put the kids to bed. Yes, it was early, but poor G was falling asleep at the dinner table. Once the kids were in bed Hubby and I snuggled in to watch G.I. Joe but I fell asleep. I FELL ASLEEP. This woman had to take a cat nap around 9 o’clock so that I would be awake at midnight. Shameful. But oh so very useful, because at midnight we toasted with Dick Clark and the neighbors down the street and their huge fireworks as we downed our sparkling grape juice.
Needless to say, I slept in today. Last night was too much partying on this body.

I love how you celebrate! Sound’s quite a bit like our new year’s eve…
