a burgeoning Hemingway

in bragging, G

One of G’s favorite new hobbies is to sit at the table in the afternoon, make a card for his Daddy, and then dictate a story to me that I write on the card.  Usually he retells a story from his favorite Spiderman cartoon, but last week he came up his first mostly original story.  Following is the story that he had me write on Auntie Leelee’s birthday card.  If you can figure out when the plagiarism comes in I’ll give you an internet high-five.  Also, please excuse the grammatical mistakes.  He’s only four and it’s fun to see his vernacular in action.  Anyway, on with the story:

  • One day a caterpillar went to the beach.
  • The he built a sand castle by himself without his mommy and daddy because he was a kid.
  • Wasn’t that a good job, that the caterpillar built a sandcastle by himself?
  • They rided on a train to the beach.
  • They had a good time.
  • They ate and slept because there was a table and some beds.
  • And then a caterpillar spit both of his eyeballs out with lots of sand.
  • And then he ate it with his stomach and popped a leg into his stomach. [insert LOUD G and Little Missy guffaws when I read this to them]
  • And then they rode on the train back.
  • G [he wrote his own name on her card.  Go, G!] was the train driver.  Teased ya!
  • And then he spitted his eyeball out of his stomach. [more guffaws]
  • Bye-bye, it’s the end of the story.

That is THE MOST PRECIOUS spitting eyeballs and eating them and a leg story that I have EVER read! Super cute!

So what does this have to do with alcoholism and self-inflicted shotgun wounds?
