in gazette, hubby

Five years ago, when I was pregnant with our first child and we went around and around and couldn’t agree on a name for our son, Hubby kept bringing up the name “Gus.”

Gus.  What kind of a name is that?  So I asked him.  “What kind of a name is that?  It reminds of me of the fat little mouse from Cinderella.”

“No, Gus is a man’s name.  A real guy’s guy.  GUS.  He put emphasis on the name and puffed his chest, attempting to show me that our son would be viewed as strong and the every-man with the name Gus.

“Eh, I just think of the fat little mouse.”

Though quite the coincidence, G’s name is not Gus in real life.  I couldn’t get past the little mouse from Cinderella.

A few years later Hubby’s sister-in-law was pregnant, also unable to decide on a name for the baby with her husband.  And she told me that her husband wanted to name their little babe Gus.

“What is up with the name ‘Gus’???” I laughed.

“Lonesome Dove.  It’s somebody’s name from Lonesome Dove.”

And now, five years after I initially heard that silly name, I am finally in the midst of watching my husband’s precious mini-series.

Our crazy husbands…but I have to admit…I have now watched Lonesome Dove 3 times—I do like the movie, however I still do not love the name Gus!! That will never happen—unless Shawn gets to the birth registrar first! HA–That would be if pigs begin flying and we have another child!!!

Honey, I really appreciate you watching my precious western, and the fact that you’ll give my scifi and action movies a chance (even horror, once in a rare while), but let the record show that I’ve seen TWO different versions of “Pride and Prejudice” and 3/4 of “Sense and Sensibility” (though as far as I can tell they’re exactly the same movie). And if that doesn’t prove my willingness to meet you half-way, then I’ve got two words for you: MEG RYAN. :)
