stages of change

#1  While on a walk through our neighborhood about a month ago, G stopped in front of me, turned around and asked “Do you know how much I like Spiderman?”

me:  No I don’t.  How much do you like Spiderman?

G:  As much as trains!

#2  On Sunday, while at Grandma and Papa’s, G informed us that he likes Spiderman more than trains.

#3  This morning he was lying on the couch when he asked if 1,000 is bigger than 100.  When I told him yes, he shouted “Well then I like Spiderman 1,000 and trains 100!”

I’m not sure how much this changes.  He still likes trains, still wants to go “the train way” while running errands so that we can drive over the train tracks, and he still wants to be a train driver when he grows up.  But this progression to Spiderman over trains gives us hope that he won’t turn into the weird old guy on the documentary that Hayley and Todd-in-law watched, the one who complained that the model train company had used the wrong font for the name of the train.  Because that kind of comment is a conversation killer every time, no matter who you’re hanging around.
