the world looks different at 5 a.m.

in just me

Over the last eight days I have purposely woken up at 5 a.m. on four of those days.  Right now my mom is shocked.  And a little part of me is, too.  But here are the reasons I love it:

  • I get to have real, face-to-face interactions with my husband before he leaves for the day.  We get to laugh and chat, even if it is only for a few minutes.
  • I have nearly two hours, one day even longer than that, to have alone time with completely uninterrupted thoughts.  Time to read, surf the internet, blog, stare out the window and drink my coffee.
  • Because of all my alone time, I’m not constantly trying to get a minute by myself.  So when my kids need all my attention at 7 a.m., I’m awake and ready to happily give it to them.

The reasons it’s difficult:

  • At 9 o’clock I look at the clock and realize I’ve been awake four hours.  By the afternoon I have to brew a second pot of coffee.
  • In order to get up so early I need to go to bed early.  Hubby, while he may complain of being tired, is rarely ever so tired that he needs to go to bed early in order to wake up at 5 a.m.  So I’m the one whining at 8:30 at night and telling him we have to go to bed soon.  But I’m determined.

I’m well-aware that I may not be able to keep this up for a long time.  But right now it’s wonderful.

Kudos to you on the early rising! I’m so NOT a morning person. I will definitely be brewing some coffee in the morning as I am flying to Charlotte, NC and our flight leaves at 6:15am. YUK!

I’m looking forward to being in NC by noon though, so it’s definitely worth it! Coffee….here I come!!!

See ya soon sister!

I wish I could roll my pretty little self out of bed at 4:00 a.m. to spend the morning with Shawn…unfortunately that has yet to happen….I would not very pretty by 9:00, no matter how much coffee I consumed! I am so happy you are getting that alone time!

Wow. I wonder if I could pull off something like this. You know, save for all the laughing nonsense since nobody is laughing that early in the morning around here.
