presents from my G

in G

Early Saturday morning I woke up, ran to the bathroom and puked.  I went back to sleep and woke up again at 6 and puked again.  As I was sitting on the floor of the bathroom, still traumatized from the wretching, little G runs out of his bedroom and sits on the floor in the hallway.

I stopped him before he could come in with me.  “Hi, Pumpkin.  We can’t snuggle today because I’m sick and I don’t want to get you sick, too.”

“Oh, I’m very sorry for you, Mommy,” he sweetly said.  After a moment he spoke again.  “You know what I want to do?  I want to get you a present.  I want to go to the store with Daddy and get you a beautiful present.”

Because that’s how he shows his love, that sweet little guy.

Later that day, while Hubby was still at work and I was still in bed, G told me he knew what he wanted to buy me: a fan!  “But I already have a fan on my bedroom ceiling, Sweet Pea.”

“But it’s not PINK.  Don’t you want a PINK FAN?”  Then he left, only to return a minute later.  “Do you feel that, Mommy?”

“Did you turn on Little Missy’s fan for me?” I asked him.

“Mm-hmm.  And we opened the doors so you could feel the air.  Does it make you feel cooler?”

I was huddled underneath blankets and I most definitely did not want to feel cooler, but I assured him that I did indeed feel the cool air.

When Hubby got home he took the kids to play at McDonald’s.  They were gone for hours.  When they got home G was proudly hiding something behind his back.  “Look what we got you!” he exclaimed.

Their present to me was Elizabeth: The Golden Age.  After some prompting by Daddy, G told me that they’d wanted to get me Bride Wars but it was out so they rented this one instead.

Sweet, sweet family I have.

Hubby tried hard to get me a movie I’d like—after all, I did like the original Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett—but I’d heard the sequel was terrible.  So I stayed in bed, where there is no DVD player, and watched the Harry Potter that was showing on KAKE.

This morning, as we were getting ready for preschool, G asked me if I liked the movie they rented me.  And I looked at his sweet face and tried to tell him the truth: I didn’t get to watch it because we had to return it so that we could rent Space Buddies for him and Little Missy.  And it was terrible to see his little face realize that I hadn’t watched the present he’d worked all day long to get me.

Next time I’m watching the movie, no matter how horrible it is.
