that there’s too many clothes

in just me

My goal is to do laundry once a week.  One day a week I try to get all my loads washed, dried, folded and put away.  But that never happens.  The last time that happened was when we lived in an apartment and I had no choice but to do all our laundry in one day at the laundromat.  Usually I get loads processed through various stages of the laundry cycle, but none get washed and dried and folded and put away all in one day.

Today I was ambitious.  I set up a comfy chair in the basement close to the washing machine and dryer, the kids played with G’s big train track, and I did most of the laundry.  Good for me.  But what I found out is that we don’t have room for all of our clothes.  Right now, both G’s and Little Missy’s dresser drawers are partially open with folded clothes pushing their way out.  It’s not that we have a lot of clothes (we don’t, most people have a lot more clothes than we do) but we also have very little storage space.

This means I have to edit.  It’s been my plan to go through and donate the clothes we rarely wear, toss the stained ones, and only keep in our drawers the clothes we actually wear on a regular basis.  Today’s episode just makes it more urgent.

I feel you here. Jeremiah and I have enough room for our clothes, but since the girls share a room and therefore a closet there’s just not enough room. I am constantly weeding out clothes that they don’t wear. I even have some of their clothes in the laundry room.

I have always tried to do that too. I would love to do laundry Sunday afternoons and be ready for each week, but laundry pretty much gets done on an as-needed basis. In fact, I just put clothes away yesterday that had been folded and sitting in the kitchen for a week (our washer and dryer are in there). Anyway, what am I going to do when the loads increase with kids?!

Are you checking with Leelee about those good clothes?

We don’t go downstairs a whole lot. Maybe it’s because the sofa, the chair, the coffee table, are almost always loaded up with clean clothes, waiting for me to put them away! I try to get rid of clothes that the girls can’t wear anymore, but they grow out of them faster than I get around to weeding the clothes out. The girls closet is stuffed, but I would guess they only wear about 1/10th of what is in there!
