I always want to be the crafty type—I think up great ideas in my head for an easy-to-make skirt or hand-painted flower pots or cute wall art. But my execution is terrible. I am sure it would be better if I had patience and devoted the time needed to the craft, but my mind wanders and I hurry up and the end result is junk. Before Hubby and I were married I painted pots for all my friends to give them as Christmas presents. And I made them specific to the recipient, not just cookie-cutter designs. We had those in our apartment after we got married (a year-and-a-half later), in the storage room of our apartment in Tulsa, and then in the garage of our house in Tulsa (all three years). After we moved to Kansas they finally disappeared. I’m thinking they went the way of Hubby’s ugly old flannels, which is to say that the spouse threw them away when the rightful owner wasn’t looking.
Last Christmas I decided to make presents for my family. Hubby turned to look at me. “Are you sure they’ll get them?” He is frugal, was frugal long before frugal was cool, and doesn’t like buying two Christmas presents for everyone—one Christmas present I make and keep around and don’t give and feel guilty about, and one Christmas present I rush out to buy at the last minute and give instead.
Another great thing about having kids is crafting. We can craft together, they can paint and give them away and when they look like a child painted them it is because a child painted them. Remember this? We haven’t done that in a while. But we did make Christmas presents for both grandmas (they were a hit, by the way).
Every once in a while I check out this website and I swear it is going to be the death of me. It has links, the links have links, and I am overloaded on craftiness. But look at this! And this! We need to make some more time for crafts.

I agree. I would really love to be crafty. Have a craft room and do crafts with my kids (pretend I had different kids). I love the crafts we do at MOPS where there is structure and directions and everything is pre-purchased, pre-printed, pre-cut, and laying out on the table in the order in which it goes together, and you know, Sami is right there to make sure I do it right…That lip gloss was one of my proudest moments.
I know exactly what you mean! I love to be crafty, but they don’t always turn out the best! I’m slowly getting better though!
I just found this website the other day. It’s amazing!

I love crafts, and I don’t even have kids. I love thinking of things to do around the house, and I’m really trying to find time to get back into sewing these days. I keep thinking I’ll have more time do it all someday!
I LOVE that website. Here’s my problem though. I buy the materials for the craft and then it sits in my craft room until I forget what I bought it for and throw it out or donate it. I bought a patern for a dress the other day so I can make matching dresses for my girls and all our neices. We’ll see if that ever really happens : )
That is the cutest website. My mom is super crafty and I always think I am until her stuff looks SO much better than mine.
BTW – I love my bangs – thanks for fixing them – you’re the best.
Thanks for the great ideas!
